Why did the chicken cross the road?

We have learned that chickens, people, and many other living things cross the road not only to get to the other side, but for a pure adrenaline rush! This adrenaline rush comes from running as fast as possible in a last minute decision to get to the other side. It is amazing that we haven’t hit anything! Besides avoiding chickens crossing the road, we are continuing to learn Portuguese every day. It seems like we will never be able to communicate effectively although it’s encouraging to look back a month ago and to see how much we have learned.

One thing we were able to do this past week was attend a 4th of July BBQ with the American missionary community in Nampula. It was so much fun! We got to eat some grilled pork chops that were amazing! Pork is very rare here. Tender, juicy, yummy meat is a very rare thing to come by. We also played volleyball. Basketball would have been better (except for those who would have experienced the Corey Crossover), but volleyball was still a lot of fun.

We also received our first package from the Krafts, which was an awesome blessing! It was so exciting to receive a package! We didn’t even have to pay duty on it and it was in one piece (normally they open the package to see the contents and charge you for it.) Thanks again Kraft Family!!

Another thing that was really cool this past week was that we learned a new song. Our house worker taught us a song in the Makhuwa language. This song is about searching the whole world over and discovering that there is no one like Jesus. We really love this song! Once we got the tune down we tried it out on the guitar and sounded out some chords. We hope to someday sing this song with the Makuwa people at the church we are attending (pictured here). We have been attending Nampula Baptist Church. We like it there and we think we will like it even more when we know what they are saying!!!!

This will be our last post for about a week and a half as we are heading to Malawi to attend an annual meeting with other team members. We are excited to be able to see another country, but the downside is a full 24 hours of driving on awful roads. It will be an adventure!

Here are some prayer requests for this week. Please pray for: 1) Traveling mercies on our trip to and from Malawi, 2) That we will retain everything that we learned so far in Portuguese and that this 10 day trip will not set us back in our learning, 3) Clarity for the ministries that God has called us to in Mozambique.

hey! today we went to the international travel place. it was to get ready for brazil. ma and pa had to get 4 shots each! they came out with pretty pink and silver band-aides on. they looked pretty cute. :D kaitlyn and i didn't get any. we were all caught up, thank goodness. have you ever heard of this song...you never let go. by matt redman? it's pretty good! we sung it at centrifuge. and we fell in love with it instantly. the chorus goes....oh no, You never let go /through the calm and through the storm/oh no, You never let go/in every high and every low/oh no, You never let go/ Lord, You never let go of me. i love it!! hahaha! we went to lifeway after the international place with the nasty shots and kaitlyn got the new passion cd with that song on it. there's another song called party. hmmm...now do you think that would be a good song if it's called party? well it is. FYI. and yea. is the makuwa song good?? you'll have to teach me when you get back or when we come. w/e comes first. k?? ok:D i love you guys! o!! kellie was wearing the red sweats you gave us for our 15th birthday. they have the utes logo on them. remember? well kellie was wearing them and so i was looking for mine all over the place. and i found them! and so they were a little bit too small in the legs. so i cut them so the would be more like capris. but now i can wear them and they still look good. and not cheesy. ya know? but i'm wearing them right now, b/c i haven't worn them for awhile. but now i am!! and i still wear the shirts that you gave us jenni! and kaitlyn wears the skyline shirt all the time. she loves it. but yea. i miss you guys!! love you!!

actually...i'll just give you all the words to the you never let go song. b/c i love it and the words are pretty cool and powerful. and you're in africa. so you might want some cool powerful words from God. k..here it goes...

even though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death
your perfect love is casting out fear
and even when i'm caught in the middle of the storms of this life
i won't turn back
i know You are near

and i will fear no evil
for my God is with me
and if my God is with me
whom then shall i fear?
whom then shall i fear?

oh no, You never let go
through the calm and through the storm
oh no, You never let go
in every high and every low
oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me

and i can see a light that is coming for the heart that holds on
a glorious light beyond all compare
and there will be an end to these troubles
but until that day comes
we'll live to know You here on the earth

i'm applying this song to my life too. so no worries. but isn't that an amazingly good song? wish you could hear the tune, but i don't know how to do that. just pretend. unless you've heard it before. then don't pretend. i love you guys super much!

Reading you blog reminds me of how much we take for granted here in the States: food, transportation, clothing, and last but NOT least God. Will we ever learn?? It is always a pleasure to read this, I will pray for your safety, and pass on your prayer request.
Love you both,
Victoria

Those are some pretty sweet pictures that you guys are posting! Remember while you are driving that the smeller is not always the feller....especially with the Dawg in the vehicle.

We're praying for you guys.

I have born witness personally to the "Corey Crossover" but have never been victimized by said crossover. I'd like to think it's because he's too intimidated to bring that garbage around here, but I think it's really just because he respects me too much & is able to exercise controlled, mature restraint on the court with respect to the usage & employment of the "CC".
